Counselling & Psychotherapy

“Not every story has a happy ending, but the discoveries of science, the teachings of the heart, and the revelations of the soul all assure us that no human being is ever beyond redemption. The possibility of renewal exists so long as life exists. How to support that possibility in others and in ourselves is the ultimate question.”

–Gabor Maté, In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, Close Encounters with Addictions

Counselling is about growth, becoming, integrating, and connecting. It’s about moving through the confusing, painful, and challenging seasons of life, with a human being who is empathically attuned to you as you navigate the shadows.

This process meets the needs of a wide spectrum of people, offering support to those engaging with developmental or situational challenges. Counselling unfolds within a confidential, stigma-free container whereby a therapist takes the position of advocate and ally (rather than “advice-giver”). The counsellor’s role is to facilitate growth and perspective-shifts that honour a client’s unique journey, personal resources, individual values, and evolving self.

Counselling is theory-based, which means counsellors draw from a number of theoretical approaches, including those that are cognitive, affective, behavioral, and systemic. Counsellors may differ in the theoretical orientations they utilize in their practice, so finding a therapist whose perspective and personality resonates with you is an important part of the process.

The therapeutic relationship lays the foundation for effective counselling. At Blue Stone, our counsellors work relationally and collaboratively alongside individuals to restore wholeness, deepen self-knowledge and personal insight, develop self-regulation skills, and facilitate healthy attachment patterns.
